Working lands have a turbulent history.
Fertile land has been claimed, stolen, sold, and overused. These dark periods have led to deep divisions among land users, managers, and the public. Eroded trust has siloed stakeholder groups and undervalued working lands as conservation spaces. Division precludes creative solutions for nature and those who steward landscapes.
Science must be rooted in relationship.
Successful management solutions must consider the values and needs of the people and communities that live on, and earn their livelihoods from, these landscapes.
