We are looking for a responsible and enthusiastic assistant crew lead to join our summer Working Lands Conservation research team!
The Project:
U.S. ranchers have long relied on rangelands to provide forage for livestock. More recently, there is a growing interest in rangelands providing a broader array of ecosystem services. Despite a growing interest in managing ecosystem services on rangelands, there is no consensus on how management practices affect the sustainable provision of these services. Our goal is to study how to balance livestock grazing with other valued ecosystem services on public lands, including healthy riparian areas, soil carbon sequestration, and high-quality sage-grouse habitat.
Job Scope:
The assistant crew lead will work under the guidance of the project manager. Main duties include:
Assist the project manager with leading the field crew in vegetation sampling, identification, and collection in riparian areas; soil sampling; and water quality monitoring
Supervise crew by overseeing soil processing, accurate data entry, and quality control of data
Maintain a safe work environment for the summer field crew
Assist the project manager with additional coordination and management tasks, as necessary
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree
Experience, or interest, in soil, water, or vegetation monitoring
Experience working on a field-based crew
Must be comfortable working in cold to very hot conditions, be able to carry up to 10 lbs of gear to field sites, and be able to work in these conditions for extended periods of time (10 hrs/day)
Effective communicator, detail-oriented, problem-solver, and solid team-player
Location, Work Schedule & Pay
The position runs from May 12th to October 3rd.
The full time work schedule is 10 hour/day for 4 days a week.
Time will be split between Logan and Randolph. Housing will be provided while in Randolph, although the assistant crew lead must provide their own food. Housing will not be provided in Logan.
